Material Handling & Conveying Solutions

Enclosed, hygienic and efficient transfer of powders and granules between every stage of your processing line. MillNest engineers each conveying solution around material behaviour, flowability, layout, hygiene requirements and downstream integration.
Materials We Handle
Engineered for your material flow
From fine spice powders and hygroscopic granules to coarse grains and dense chemical powders — conveying technology is always selected around the material’s particle size, bulk density, flowability and contamination sensitivity.

How It Works
Material handling across the full processing line
Conveying is not a standalone solution — it connects every stage of the processing line. MillNest designs the full transfer sequence around the line layout and the material at each stage.
STEP 1
Raw Intake
Bag / bulk intake & discharge
STEP 2
Pre-Processing
Feed to mill / cutter / dryer
STEP 3
Inter-Stage Transfer
Between process equipment
STEP 4
Elevation
Floor-to-floor or silo filling
STEP 5
Blender Feed
Controlled rate into blender
STEP 6
Post-Blending
Transfer to weighing / batching
STEP 7
Packing Feed
Final transfer to packaging line
Common Challenges
What this solution helps solve
Material handling problems are often overlooked until they cause downtime, quality failures or safety incidents. MillNest reviews material behaviour, transfer distances and plant layout before recommending any conveying route.

Manual Handling & Operator Exposure

Manual powder scooping and bag transfer creates operator exposure to fine dusts, ergonomic risk and inconsistent feed rates. Enclosed mechanical or pneumatic conveying removes operators from the material path entirely.

Dusty Transfer & Product Loss

Open chutes, gravity drops and poorly sealed transfers generate dust clouds that reduce yield, create fire and explosion risk, cause hygiene failures and increase cleaning time between batches.

Cross-Contamination Between Products

Shared conveying paths between product changeovers carry allergen and flavour transfer risk. Enclosed systems with complete cleanout, quick-release access and validated changeover procedures address this at the design stage.

Layout Constraints & Transfer Distance

Process stages in different rooms, on different floors or at long horizontal distances require conveying routes matched to plant geometry. Pneumatic, screw and bucket systems each suit different layout configurations.

Technology Selection
Conveying technologies for every transfer requirement
Selection depends on material flowability, particle size, bulk density, transfer distance and direction, hygiene requirements and cleanability. Each route is reviewed against the specific application before recommendation.

Pneumatic Conveying System

Long-distance enclosed powder transfer

Uses pressurised or vacuum air to transport powders and fine granules through sealed pipework over long distances, around corners and across multiple floors. Completely enclosed — no dust, no spillage, no operator contact. Dilute phase and dense phase configurations available based on material fragility and bulk density. Ideal for spice powders, pharma ingredients, instant mixes and nutraceutical powders between remote process stages or silos.

Screw Conveyor

Controlled horizontal & inclined transfer

Rotating helical screw moves material at controlled, consistent feed rate through a sealed trough — horizontally or at inclines up to 45°. Well-suited to cohesive, sticky or irregular-flowing materials that pneumatic systems handle poorly. Food-grade stainless steel construction with sealed housings and CIP-ready designs for allergen-controlled environments. Used widely for spice and masala plant inter-stage transfer, blender feeding and packing line supply.

Bucket Elevator

Vertical elevation of granules & seeds

Continuous vertical elevation of granules, seeds, whole spices and coarser materials using buckets attached to a moving belt or chain. Energy-efficient for high vertical lifts where pneumatic conveying would require excessive air handling. Compact footprint suits tight plant layouts. Suited to grain intake, spice pre-processing lines, seed handling and post-drying elevation before milling or storage — particularly for materials with particle sizes too large for pneumatic transfer.

Vibratory Feeder

Precise controlled feed rate into process equipment

Electromagnetic or motor-driven vibration moves material along an enclosed trough at a precisely controlled and adjustable feed rate. Used where consistent, metered material delivery into mills, cutters, dryers or weighing systems is critical. Particularly suited to fragile granules, whole spices and seeds where screw action would cause unacceptable product attrition. Variable speed control allows real-time feed rate adjustment to match downstream equipment throughput.
Technology Fit
Choosing the right conveying technology
Material properties, transfer distance, layout direction and hygiene requirements all drive the right choice. A single line may use multiple conveying technologies — each matched to the specific transfer stage.

Material Flowability

Free-Flowing vs Cohesive

Free-flowing fine powders suit pneumatic systems. Cohesive, sticky or irregular-flowing materials need screw conveyors where mechanical push ensures reliable transfer at controlled rates.

Transfer Direction

Horizontal, Inclined or Vertical

Horizontal and inclined transfers suit screws and pneumatics. Vertical elevation over multiple floors is most energy-efficient with bucket elevators. Pneumatic handles all directions through pipework.

Particle Size

Fine Powder vs Coarse Granule

Fine powders transfer reliably in pneumatic systems. Coarser materials, whole spices and seeds may need bucket elevators or vibratory feeders to avoid attrition or pipework blockage.

Hygiene & Cleanability

Allergen Control & CIP

Multi-product facilities with allergen management requirements need conveying systems designed for complete cleanout, verified residue-free changeover and quick-release access throughout.
