Fluid Bed Dryer
Every Particle Airborne. Every Particle Dried Uniformly.
The Fluid Bed Dryer passes controlled hot air upward through a perforated distributor plate, suspending every particle individually in the air stream. Because each particle is fully surrounded by the drying medium simultaneously — not stacked in a tray waiting for heat to reach it from one direction — the MFBD achieves uniform moisture across the full batch at inlet temperatures and drying times far below what tray or rotary drum drying requires.

(formerly TEMA Process B.V.)
The fluid bed dryer technology deployed in the MillNest MHTST Sterilizer, MPAS Pasteurizer and standalone MFBD lines is designed and manufactured by Therma Process — a specialist Dutch engineering company for thermal processing systems, formerly known as TEMA Process B.V. (acquired by Goudkuil Group in 2026). Therma Process specialises in fluid bed drying, cooling, sterilisation, pasteurisation and related thermal treatment across food, feed, chemical, mineral and battery material industries. MillNest is the authorised India partner for Therma Process — providing site engineering, installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, spares and utility parts for Therma Process systems in India. Every fluid bed system is custom-engineered around the material and process targets; no standard catalogue unit is supplied.
The Fluid Bed Dryer passes controlled temperature air upward through a perforated distributor plate at a velocity sufficient to suspend the material bed. At the correct air velocity for a given material’s particle size and bulk density, the particles enter a fluidized state — each particle is individually airborne and in continuous contact with the drying air stream on all surfaces simultaneously. This is the fundamental difference from tray drying, where particles sit in a static bed and drying proceeds from the surface downward as heat slowly conducts through the material.
- Fluidized bed — all particles in simultaneous air contact; intensive heat and moisture exchange across free-flowing powders, crystals, granules, pellets and seeds
- Shaking bed technology (Therma Process) — controlled, product-friendly transport with stable residence time; less particle damage than vibration-based systems
- Multi-zone configuration — drying and cooling zones in a single machine, each with independent temperature, airflow and residence-time settings
- Precise moisture control — outlet humidity sensor closes the control loop; same machine tested before full-scale design to validate fluidisation, drying rate and scale-up
- Sterile HEPA-filtered air option for post-sterilization FBD integrated with MHTST / MPAS lines
- Energy recovery, heat recovery, inert gas, ATEX and hygienic/CIP designs available
- Advanced fluidization technology
- Fluidized Bed Mechanism — Uniform Drying Across Every Particle
- Real-time moisture monitoring

Not sure if FBD is right for your material?
Share your material details and our process experts will guide you to the right machine and process route.
- Uniform outlet moisture is a specification requirement — tray drying produces acceptable average moisture but unacceptable batch variation
- The material is downstream of a sterilizer or pasteurizer and must be dried in a closed sterile environment before packing
- Lower drying temperature is required to preserve volatile oils, colour or heat-sensitive active compounds
- Drying time is a production bottleneck — tray drying cycle times of 8–24 hours are limiting throughput
